Okutama Ekiden Course
by Ken Kuroiwa
Take the Ome Line to Kabe Station and start at the gym where we all meet and start for the ekiden. Just run the ekiden course all the way up to Okutama Station at the end of the Ome Line (ekiden turnaround point). Generally, a fairly gentle climb. One-way distance: approx 23.2 km.
The road follows the train line and there are about 14 train stations going up to Okutama Station, so there are convenient bail-out points every couple of kilometers. A map for negotiating your way out of Ome City would be handy if you’re not familiar with the course.
At Okutama Station, catch the train back to Kabe, if you want to shower at the gym or have left stuff there, or take it straight back to Haijima and Tachikawa, for connections to Tokyo and other points.
