10 Nambanners Take Prizes at TELL Charity Race

About 15 club members participated in 5 and 10 km races around the Imperial Palace on May 3, in support of the Tokyo English Life Line (TELL).

With exceptionally good prizes going 10 deep in men’s and women’s sections of both races, TELL probably has the best prizes of any race in Japan, and 10 Nambanners ran well enough to take some of them home. The best performance was by Yuri Kanbara, who won the Women’s 10K in a PB of 38:15, winning a stay at the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay. Rie Ogawa was 2nd in the Women’s 5K in 19:51, winning 3 nights at an Oakwood Luxury Apartment in Yotsuya. (Thanks to club member Keren Miers of Oakwood, which donated three other great prizes as well.) Showing great team spirit, Nambanners finished 4th in each race: Gerard Robb in Men’s 10K (35:10), Brett Larner in Men’s 5K (16:48), Taeko Hara in Women’s 10K (49:31) and Mika Tokairin in Women’s 5K (20:37). All four of them won ¥20,000 dinner coupons. Christian Sommer was 6th in the Men’s 5k in 17:32. Paddy O’Connor ran a PB 36:42 to take 9th in the Men’s 10K. Gordon Knight ran 18:05 to place 9th in the Men’s 5K and Chika Kanai ran 22:39 to come home 10th in the Women’s 5K. Despite the rain, it was a great day for Namban Rengo, and for TELL.
By the way, in addition to the best prizes in Japan, this race also had the best presenter in Japan: Miss Universe Japan.
