30th Frostbite Half Marathon
Gloves – check! Hat – check! Passport – check! Not French – check! It can only mean one thing, it’s time for the Frostbite Half marathon.
16th January 2011
On a chilly Sunday morning about 10 club members made their way to Yokota Air Force base in western Tokyo. The whole access and ID requirement is understandably a put-off for some, which is a pity because it’s a well organised race on a good course.
Although it was relatively calm before the race started, from then on the wind gradually picked up. The blue skies that had welcomed us to the base became quite overcast and the temperatures dropped close to freezing. The 13 – 17km section back up along the runway was particularly tough, but thankfully the last few kilometres to the finish were wind-assisted.
Most Nambanners seemed to enjoy the race and hopefully more can join, or be allowed to join, next year.
