4th Annual Tokyo Verdy 1969 Inagi Green Ekiden report

Hot on the heels of TELL, three Namban teams represented at the Inagi
Ekiden today on the first really hot and sunny day of the year.

A snaggletoothed A-team made up of 3/4 injured and/or post-marathon
fatigued runners, namely Christian, Jason, Brett and Omar, moved up
steadily through the field to finish 2nd only 20 seconds behind the
winners.  Namban was 2nd two years ago in its first run at Inagi and won
last year in course record time, so 2nd again this year kept up our
reputation.

The open mixed team of Gordon, Mika, Rie and Paddy was just behind the
A-team at the end of the first stage but after some tough competition
finished just outside the medals in 4th place.

The masters mixed team of Gareth, Tamami, Chika and Jon delivered the
surprise performance of the day.  Following a titanic lead leg by
Gareth, the other members held on to finish 3rd, good enough to make the
podium and pick up some gear.

After the award ceremony almost the entire contingent retired to nearby
Minami Osawa for all-you-can-eat Italian and all-you-can-buy outlet mall
shopping.  Entertainment was provided free by Jason`s brother Damo.

Paddy has compiled a compendium of photos documenting the day:

Once again, the Tokyo Verdy 1969 Inagi Green Ekiden lived up to its name
and reputation as one of the best events on the Namban calendar.  We
will look forward to returning next year to maintain the club`s dynasty
and have a good time doing so.
