Tokyo Marathon — Wet and Windy
March 22 saw 40+ Namban Rengo runners take to the streets of Tokyo for the 3rd Tokyo Marathon. The race was moved back a month this year, but the shift did not improve the weather for running. Although slightly warmer, it was still chilly, and the runners were intermittently blasted by strong winds and showers. Still, the fun of running through the city’s main thoroughfares, accompanied by 30,000 fellow-travelers, made the event a memorable experience for all.
The wind slowed everyone from the winner to the back-of-the-packers, but several Nambanners still managed PBs and there were many other good performances, with the looks of agony at 40k being replaced by smiles at the finish…and everyone looked great at the post-race party! Congratulations also to the 10k runners, including Jay in 7th, Frank 10th and Kiki 19th woman. Mark the 28th of February on your calendar for next year — and hope for no wind!
